About this breed
Developed in 1915 from a strain of Rhode Island Red brought into New Hampshire state, this breed was recognized as a distinct breed in 1935. This New Hampshire Red came from the "Newcomer" strain which was an egg laying strain and has been improved upon yearly. If you're looking for a bird that matures early, lays well, and is of heavy weight, you need a New Hampshire.
