About this breed
The Broad Breasted White Turkey is the clear favorite in the commercial turkey industry. This is due to its excellent feed to meat conversion ration and its white colored pin feathers. The Broad Breasted White Turkey is a strain developed from the Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey around 1960. It was developed in order to produce a breed with the same exceptional meat quantity and efficiency but with white feathers, creating a cleaner looking carcass when dressed.
Broad Breasted White Turkeys are also the largest breed of turkeys available. The toms will weigh up to 34 pounds at 20 weeks and the hens up to 22 pounds. Broad Breasted Turkeys are intended for large turkey farming operations and raised specifically for optimal meat production. Due to its large size and shorter breast bones than standard turkey breeds, the Broad Breasted White Turkey is unable to reproduce naturally.
